A New Book and a Contest!

It's always exciting to hold a new book in my hands, and my newest has finally arrived!  An Unlikely Suitor is set in the Gilded Age, 1895.  A New York seamstress, along with her sister and mother, help create a summer wardrobe for a rich heiress.  They end up in the summer haven of the rich, Newport, Rhode Island.  A friendship ensues, a bit of danger, and a lot of romance.

I've talked about the book in earlier posts, and have begun sharing some of the insights into Newport and the sewing process that I discovered while doing the research.  I'll share more in future weeks.  Here's a woman who looks like Lucia Scarpelli, my seamstress...  I love finding portraits of people who match the characters in my head.  The fact she'd dressed ala 1895, and is sitting in a place that looks like Newport's Cliff Walk.  Zounds, I couldn't have imagined her any better!

I'm so excited about the book's release that I'm having a contest.  I'm giving away a vintage-inspired wooden box full of goodies (worth over $50), an antique piece of jewelry (that sparkles), and a copy of the novel.  Three winners.  All you have to do is leave a comment to this blog entry and tell me the era of history you most like to read about.  Who knows?  Maybe I'll choose that time in history as a setting in a future novel.  Or you can also enter on my website at www.nancymoser.com or on my Facebook page.  I'll draw the three winners on May 15.

Also, just a note... if you like the book I'd sure appreciate you spreading the word, and leaving a review on one of the online bookstores like Christianbook.com, Amazon.com, or barnesandnoble.com.  If you don't like the book, shhh!   Just kidding.  You're welcome to give your true opinion.

Thank you ever so much for your readership!  Without you, I'm writing to the wind.//Nancy

  1. What a fun contest! My absolute favorite historical era is World War II (but I have to tell you, since reading She Walks in beauty my interest in the Gilded Age has been piqued!).

  3. My favorite era in history is probably the 1800's. I like how they dressed and the chivalry. Although it is hard to read how women were treated but I like reading how women overcame all the restrictions put on them.

  4. I'm from Oregon, and I do love to read stories set on the Oregon Trail, but I also enjoy stories set in colonial times. Okay, I like all time periods.

  6. Right now my grown daughter and I are interested in the Regency era. Not sure why. :) We both enjoy well researched historical fiction no matter the era.

  7. My favorite era is probably the late 1700s early 1800s. I do genealogy research with my Dad and that is the period we often get stuck in with pleasure.

  8. I look forward to reading this new book of yours! I have enjoyed sewing period clothing for many years, making my own patterns before there was any "Simplicity" option! My two favorite eras on a number of levels are the American Civil War and the late Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Thank you for your stories. I am in the midst of "Masquerade" now. So much to learn there. :-)

  9. I love historical novels, especially the 1800's, Civil War era and earlier. I really like novels that are descriptive, such as the dresses, homes, hairdo's and etc. I am sure that I should have lived in the 1800's but don't know if I could have survived the trials and turmoil that they had to endure. I would love to be a winner in your contest. Thanks

  10. Congratulations on your fantastic-sounding new book, Nancy! I look forward to reading it.

And among many, I most enjoy reading about the Victorian era :-) I want to live there just so I can wear the dresses! Oh, and to see if just the slightest touch of a hand was really as romantic as the movies would have you believe
    :-)

    Wishing you much success!

  11. I'm partial to the 14th and 15th Centuries. Women weren't quite liberated yet, but they were strong and had to work the fields/homes to keep things together.

  12. I like the pioneer days. Women were so brave and hard working. I really admire their patience and courage. Thanks to you Nancy, I like the Revolutionary War period too as Washington's Lady was superb!

  13. I love novels set in the Revolutionary War or the Civil War, especially ones that deal with families torn apart by allegiances to the other side. I also enjoy Regency novels.
